How the forecast works

1. Your path. The school year starts on 1 August. From your grade, the calculator adds the rest of high school and the training the career takes - college, medical or dental school, residency, fellowship - to find the year you would start working.
2. The growth rate. It takes the career's own yearly growth in average pay since 2022 (held between -2% and +6%), blends it with the typical growth across all 24 careers (3.4% a year), and never goes below 1.5%. The range shows one point less and one point more.
3. The projection. It grows the latest average (May 2025) at that rate until your start year, and also shows the figure in today's money, assuming 2.5% inflation a year.

Important: this is the average for everyone in the career in that year, not a starting salary - new doctors and nurses usually earn less than the average at first. Pay depends on where you work, your employer and your experience, and nobody can predict it decades ahead. Use it to compare careers, not to plan finances.
